Scoil Mhuire na gCnoc
Scoil Mhuire na gCnoc is located in the historic village of Knock in Co. Mayo. The first parish schools in Knock opened in 1870. At that time there were two schools, a boys’ school and a girls’ school. These schools were church run, and church funded. Each school consisted of one large room and a fireplace. The children brought a sod of turf to school each day during winter. Each school had dry toilets. In 1967 the two schools were amalgamated and moved ot the present building.
The present school was built in 1967 and over the years extensions have been added to the school. Originally, there were four classrooms. At present there are five classrooms, learning support, resource, IT/library and PE hall. We are fortunate to have such facilities, and over the past few years we have successfully upgraded the interior of the building and the school grounds, with the addition of an astro-turf pitch, tennis court and set down area.
