e-Zine Update November December 2014

Please see below for general information and forthcoming events and dates for your diaries.

 School Start Time

Parents are reminded that school starts for all pupils at 9.20am sharp.  Children arriving late will miss out on important lessons.

Car Parking

Once again we would like to remind parents to use the set down area or the school car park for dropping off/collecting children.  Please refrain from using the laneway up the side of the school, this area is for staff parking ONLY; some cars have been damaged recently, likely due to congestion in the laneway.  Please also refrain from parking and leaving cars in the set down area – cars MUST be parked in the car park if you are leaving your car and coming into the school to drop off or collect children.

Athletics

The children will attend athletics in Claremorris as follows:

Mrs Coyne’s class on Monday 24th November; Mrs Langan’s and Ms Coyle’s classes on Thursday 27th November.  The cost for the track and bus to and from Claremorris is €5 per child please and must be paid at the latest on the morning they are going.  Please note that anyone who has not paid will not be allowed to attend.

Christmas Plays

This year’s Christmas plays will be held as follows:

Mrs Langan’s class on Wednesday 10th December at 7.30pm

Mrs Coyne’s and Ms Horkan’s classes on Tuesday 16th December at 7.30pm

Ms Coyle’s and Ms Boyle’s classes on Wednesday 17th December at 7.30pm

Please note that due to shortage of space in the school hall, no other children attending the school can be accommodated in the audience at any of the shows.  It is very important that this rule is adhered to for the health and safety of everyone.

Fundraising:

School Calendar

Samples of the school calendar will be available for viewing shortly; details of price and how to order will be advised in the coming weeks.

Cash for Clobber

The collection date has been booked with Cash for Clobber for immediately after the February mid-term break.  Bags will be going out to all families shortly, with details specifying when the bags can then be brought to the school hall – please do not bring or send in bags outside of the specified times, as the school does not have the storage space.  Please note that shoes must be in pairs and in a separate bag to other items; all items of clothing are acceptable; but no duvets or pillows.

 Yoga Workshop

There will be a yoga workshop for all classes (JI-6th) on Wednesday 3rd December.  This will give the children an opportunity to sample the benefits of yoga exercise.  The cost will be €2 per child.

 Swimming

Swimming lessons will re-commence on 5th January 2015 for Mrs Coyne’s and Ms Boyle’s classes. Permission slips and details have been issued to the children; we would request that final payment of €45 per child is sent into the school no later than Wednesday 12th December please.  Lessons for 1st class with Ms Coyle and Ms Horkan’s class will start on 16th February 2015, details & permission slips will be issued in January.  We would like to recommend that waterproof swimming caps be used by the girls please.  This will save time in the changing rooms and eliminate them coming into school with wet hair.

 Comenius

As you be aware a group of 10, 4 staff members and 6 children from 6th class visited our Spanish partner school in Rivas, Madrid.  The group had a day of sightseeing around Madrid, including a Red Bus Tour of the city, a visit to the Reina Sofia – where they viewed some great artists including Picasso and Goya and also had the opportunity to view the fabulous Guernica painting.  The group then met up with all our other Comenius partners at the Rivas school, toured the school, which is rather larger than our school here in Knock, our children integrated well with the Spanish children.  They went on a walk around some historical sites in the city and finished with a fabulous guided tour of Museo Nacional del Prado – another magnificent art gallery.  A most informative and enjoyable time was had by all.

School Closure Dates

The school will be closed on the following dates:

Holy Day (Immaculate Conception): Monday 8th December

Christmas Holidays: school finishes at 12noon on Friday 19th December and we kindly ask that all children are collected promptly at this time please.  We re-open at 9.20am on Monday 5th January 2015

Holy Day (Epiphany): Tuesday 6th January 2015
