Mrs Coyne

After 35 years of service as a primary school teacher, Siobhan Coyne recently announced her retirement.  To recognise her contribution to Knock National School we intend to hold a mass in her honour on Thursday 25th June at 1pm in the school, all members of the school and wider community are invited to attend; refreshments will be served thereafter. In order to assist us with catering for this event, we would be most grateful if parents could donate a salad and/or dessert please; which should be delivered to the library between 9.20am and 12noon on the day; all children will go home at 12noon on Thursday 25th June.  Please note that any children attending this event will not be supervised by staff, they will remain the responsibility of parents and guardians.

Skipathon

Thank you to everyone who took part and who sponsored this very enjoyable event.  We raised a total of €1,100; which will be used for painting the classrooms and some exterior areas and also towards some gardening expenses.

Enormous thanks also to Mrs Coyne for donating many of the flowers, plants and other items in the garden this year and for all her gardening time and effort over the past few years.  She leaves us with a great legacy for such beautiful surroundings.

Pizza

We made pizza with Ms Coyne for Science. We made the dough on Wednesday afternoon, allowed it to rise overnight and then created our tasty treats.

Hallowe’en

We had a fantastic Hallowe’en. We held a sponsored Hallowe’en walk and raised EUR2,000 for our school. We also enjoyed pumpkin carving, ducking and other Hallowe’en treats.

September/October 2014

We had a busy first term. Take a look at some of the activities we took part in during September and October.

Comenius

Dear Parents,

As you are aware Knock National School is participating in the Comenius project. Over the past year teachers have visited schools in Norway, Germany and Latvia, in addition to hosting our Comenius partners in March 2013. We have found participation in the Comenius project to be an enriching and worthwhile educational experience.

We intend to travel to Spain in November to visit our partner school in Rivas, Madrid and would like to extend an invitation for children in sixth class to join us. We are in a position to bring approximately 6 children on the trip, and we are currently looking for suitable students from sixth class. Children who would like to work on the project, and travel to Spain in November, are asked to complete the on-line form below before Friday 10th October. All of the details for the trip are not finalised yet. However, parents/guardians of children chosen by the school will have an opportunity to meet with Ms Boyle to discuss every aspect of the trip.

The following information is available at this point.
The children will:

1. travel to Spain with Ms Boyle, Mrs Coyne and other members  of staff on Wednesday 12th November and return on Saturday 15th November

2. be required to have parent/guardian consent

3. be required to assist Ms Boyle and Mrs Coyne with work relating to the project e.g prepare presentations/videos about our school

4. have a valid passport

5. not be required to pay for flights or hotel accommodation
attend classes in a primary school and participate in cultural events in Spain

6. stay in a hotel with staff from Knock National School
be required to have their own spending money for the trip

Children are asked to fill in the form below and click Submit.

Only one application per child will be accepted.

Please submit all forms before Friday, 10th October.
